Mark Hughes is a man of resilience, determination, and inspiration. A former professional rugby league player, Mark spent nearly a decade with the Newcastle Knights, where he was a key member of two premiership-winning teams and proudly represented New South Wales in the State of Origin.
In 2013, Mark’s life took an unexpected and life-altering turn when he was diagnosed with brain cancer. Faced with this enormous challenge, he didn’t back down. Instead, he co-founded the Mark Hughes Foundation, an organisation dedicated to raising awareness and funding for brain cancer research. To date, the Foundation has raised over $35 million, making a significant impact in the fight against this devastating disease.
Born and raised in the small town of Kurri Kurri, NSW, Mark carries with him a powerful mantra: “Make Today Count.” This mindset, along with his unwavering optimism and resilience, has guided him through life’s toughest moments.
